About

Discord limits how large a file you can send in a message. The limit can depend on your plan and can change over time, so check Discord's help pages for the current figure. A screen recording or a short clip that is a little over the limit will not send. This page opens the Video Compressor already set to 10 MB, the Discord option, so you can shrink the clip and post it without working out the number yourself.

Drop the video onto the page and the tool reads its length, resolution and sound. It then works out a picture quality that fits 10 MB for that length. Everything runs in your browser, and the video is not sent to a server, so a private recording stays on your computer. For a long clip, the page warns you if 10 MB is too small, and suggests turning sound off or choosing a larger size.

If your server or plan allows a different size, type it in the Or any size, in MB field under Settings. The button then shows your new target. You download the compressed file and upload it to Discord yourself, when you are ready to post it.

How to use the Compress a Video for Discord

  1. 1

    Choose a video

Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file onto the page, or click to pick one. The length and resolution appear straight away.

  2. 2

    Check the 10 MB setting

Under Settings, 10 MB is already selected and marked Discord. If your limit is different, type your number in the Or any size, in MB field.

  3. 3

    Decide on sound

If the clip does not need audio, switch Keep sound off. The picture gets more of the 10 MB. Leave Resolution on Auto unless you want a smaller frame.

  4. 4

    Compress and download

Click Compress to 10 MB. When it finishes, the panel shows the original and new sizes. Click Download to save the file, then upload it to Discord.

Send a short screen recording of a problem to a Discord channel, without a long file that will not upload.

  • Send a clip in a direct message

Make a video small enough to send to a friend in a private message, while keeping it easy to watch.

Questions

How do I make a video small enough for Discord?

Open the compressor, keep 10 MB selected under Settings, and click Compress to 10 MB. Download the file and upload it to Discord. If Discord still refuses it, choose a smaller size and compress the video again.

What is the file size limit for Discord?

Discord sets a limit on the files you can send, and it can depend on your plan and change over time. Check Discord's help pages for the current number. If your limit is different from 10 MB, type it under Settings in the Or any size, in MB field.

Will the video still look good on Discord?

It depends on the length and the movement in the clip. A short clip with little motion keeps more detail at 10 MB than a long one with fast action. The tool warns you if 10 MB is very small for the length of the video.

Is my video uploaded when I compress it?

No. The compression runs in your browser, and the video is not sent to a server. You upload the finished file to Discord yourself, when you send it.

Can I send a longer video on Discord?

Only if the compressed file fits under your limit. Turn sound off to free more space for a long clip. If the video still cannot fit, shorten it, or share a link to a cloud storage service instead.

Is the Discord video compressor free?

Yes. The tool is free to use, and it does not add a watermark or logo to the video.
