About
Email services cap the size of an attachment, and the limit differs between providers. A video over that limit will not attach to the message. The limit can also change, so check your provider's help pages for the current figure. This page opens the Video Compressor already set to 25 MB, the Email option, which is a good starting point for most attachments.
Drop the video onto the page and the tool reads its length, resolution and sound, then works out a quality that fits 25 MB. The work runs in your browser, and the video is not sent to a server. A long video at 25 MB can still look soft. The page tells you when the target is too small for the length, and you can turn sound off or choose a shorter clip.
If the video cannot reach a usable quality at your limit, send a link instead of an attachment. Upload the compressed file to a cloud storage service, then put the link in the email. A smaller file also downloads faster for the person who opens it.
How to use the Compress a Video for Email
- 1
Choose the video
Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file onto the page, or click to pick one. The length and resolution appear straight away.
- 2
Keep 25 MB, or set your limit
Under Settings, 25 MB is already selected and marked Email. If your provider allows a different size, type it in the Or any size, in MB field, and leave some room for the rest of the message.
- 3
Set resolution and sound
Leave Resolution on Auto for most videos. Keep sound on for a clip with speech. For a silent screen recording, switch Keep sound off to save space.
- 4
Compress and download
Click Compress to 25 MB. When the panel shows the new size, click Download to save the file, then attach it to your email.
What people use it for
Send a demo to a client as an attachment
Shrink a walkthrough or a product demo so it arrives in the email itself, and the client can open it without a separate link.
Share a recital or match with a group
Make a school, club or family video small enough to send to everyone on a list in one message.
Send a bug recording to a colleague
Attach a short screen recording of a problem so a colleague can watch it from the email.
Questions
How do I compress a video to attach to an email?
Open the compressor, keep 25 MB selected under Settings, and click Compress to 25 MB. Download the file and attach it to your email. If the attachment is still too large, choose a smaller size and compress the video again.
What is the email attachment limit for a video?
Limits vary between email providers, and they can change. Check your provider's help pages for the current figure. If yours is different from 25 MB, type your limit under Settings in the Or any size, in MB field.
What if the video is still too big to attach?
Upload the compressed file to a cloud storage service and send the recipient the link instead. You can also shorten the clip or turn sound off before you compress it again.
Will the quality drop too much at 25 MB?
A short clip keeps more detail at 25 MB than a long one. A long video with a lot of movement will look softer. The page warns you if 25 MB is very small for the length of the video.
Is my video sent to a server?
No. The compression runs in your browser, and the video is not sent to a server. You attach the finished file to your email yourself.
Is the email video compressor free?
Yes. The tool is free to use, and it does not add a watermark or logo to the video.
