About

A 50 MB target suits longer videos than a 25 MB one. It is for a portal or form with a bigger allowance, a longer recording you need to share with a client, or a lesson clip that has to keep more of its picture. Each service sets its own limit, and limits change, so look at the upload page or the sending app before you compress. This page opens the Video Compressor with 50 MB already selected.

The extra room changes how much detail the picture keeps. At 50 MB, a shorter clip can stay close to its original look, while a much longer video has to be drawn with less data for each second. You can lower the Resolution to 720p or 480p to give the picture more room, or leave it on Auto so the tool picks a frame size that fits the target.

If the video is already smaller than 50 MB, compressing it may not make it smaller. The page warns you when the original is already smaller than the setting produces, so you can keep the original file. Sound is kept by default. Turn Keep sound off for a silent clip or a demo where only the picture matters. If the target cannot be reached at that length, the page says so.

How to use the Compress a Video to 50 MB

  1. 1

    Choose a video

Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file onto the page, or click to pick one. The size, resolution, frame rate and length are shown once it loads.

  2. 2

    Check the 50 MB target

Under Settings, click 50 MB under Target size. For a different limit, type a number in the Or any size, in MB field, from 1 to 4000.

  3. 3

    Set resolution and sound

Leave Resolution on Auto, or pick 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p if the original is larger than that. Switch Keep sound off if the file does not need audio.

  4. 4

    Compress and download

Click Compress to 50 MB. The panel then shows the original and new sizes and the change between them. Click Download to save the file.

What people use it for

  • Send a longer video through an upload form

Some forms accept a bigger file than an email does. Set the target to 50 MB, then check the form's own limit before you upload.

  • Hand over a recording to a client

Reduce a longer recording so it can be shared in a folder or a file transfer, while keeping more of the picture than a 25 MB file would.

  • Submit a lesson clip to a course

Shrink a video project or a lesson clip so it can be uploaded to a learning platform that accepts a larger file.

  • Free up room on a drive

Make a large recording smaller before you move it to shared storage or archive it for later.

Questions

Is 50 MB a good size for a long video?

It depends on the length and how much detail you need. A longer video at 50 MB keeps less detail for each second than a short one. If the picture matters most, try 50 MB, watch the result, and then choose a larger size if your destination allows it.

What if my video is already under 50 MB?

Compressing it may not reduce the size. When the result is not smaller than the original, the page tells you so, and you can keep the original file.

Does a 50 MB target keep the sound?

Yes, by default. Keep sound stays on unless you switch it off. Turning it off gives the picture more room, which helps when the audio is not needed.

What if the video cannot get down to 50 MB?

The tool checks the result and tries again with a lower setting, up to three times. If the target still cannot be reached at that length, the page says so. Shorten the video, turn sound off, or lower the Resolution, then compress again.

Are my videos uploaded when I use the 50 MB setting?

No. The video is compressed in your browser, and it is not sent to a server.

Can I compress by quality instead of 50 MB?

Yes. Choose By quality and pick High, Medium or Low. In that mode the tool does not aim for a file size, so the result can be larger or smaller than 50 MB.
