About
A phone video held upright is taller than it is wide. YouTube videos, presentation slides and TV screens are widescreen, so an upright clip placed in one sits in a narrow column with empty space on both sides. The page is already set to 16:9, so that change is ready before you add your video.
The empty sides can be filled in three ways. Blur places the whole picture over a softened copy of itself, which reads as a backdrop behind the clip. Colour uses plain bars in a colour you choose, such as black or a brand colour. Crop fills the frame edge to edge, so only a horizontal band of the upright picture remains. Use the Move up / down slider to choose which band stays in view.
The video is reframed in your browser and is not uploaded. No account is needed and no watermark is added. The preview is drawn the same way as the export, so the file you download matches what you see. The export is an MP4 in most browsers.
How to use the Convert a Vertical Video to Horizontal
- 1
Choose your video
Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file on the page, or click to choose one. The page opens on 16:9, so the output is already widescreen.
- 2
Check the shape and size
Under Shape, 16:9 stays selected. Under Size, choose 1080p or 720p for the short side of the video.
- 3
Choose how to fill the sides
Under Fill the frame with, choose Blur, Colour or Crop. Set the blur strength or the bar colour, or use Zoom and the move sliders with Crop to pick the part of the picture that stays.
- 4
Export and download
Press Export 16:9 video, wait for the progress bar to finish, then press Download. The file name ends in 16x9, such as clip-16x9.
What people use it for

Fit an upright video onto a widescreen presentation slide, with a blurred or coloured fill around it.
A phone video on a TV
Show an upright clip across a widescreen TV or monitor without leaving two empty strips on the sides.
A single band from a tall shot

Questions
Is it free?
Yes. The tool is free and runs in your browser. No account or sign-up is needed.
How do I make a vertical video horizontal?
Drop the video on the page, keep the 16:9 shape, choose a fill, then press Export and Download. The result is a widescreen MP4 with the original sound.
Does the picture get stretched?
No. The picture keeps its proportions. The empty space is filled by the blur, the colour bars or the crop, and the picture itself is not squashed.
Which fill looks best for a widescreen upload?
Blur often looks the most finished for an upright clip, because the sides repeat the picture. Colour gives a plain frame. Crop makes the subject larger but shows only part of the picture.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. The video is opened and processed on your device and is not uploaded. The download is saved directly from your browser.
Does the sound stay?
Yes. The original audio track is carried over. If the browser cannot carry the sound across, the page tells you the file is silent.
