About
Pull the sound out of an MP4 and save it as an MP3 file. You keep the audio of a talk, a podcast recording, a song from your own performance or a voiceover, and leave the picture behind. This page opens the audio extractor ready for an MP4, so you can drop the file in and save just the sound.
Choose the bitrate that fits how you will use the sound. MP3 offers 128, 192, 256 and 320 kbps. 192 is a good default for music and speech, and 128 gives the smallest file. The Original option is also offered when the audio track in the MP4 can be copied, and it keeps the track exactly as it is stored, with nothing changed. M4A (AAC) and WAV are there when you need a different format.
The MP4 is read on your device and is not uploaded. Trim the sound on the waveform before you save, so the file holds only the part you want. Long recordings are supported, and no account is needed. The page adds nothing to the audio.

Questions
Is MP4 to MP3 conversion free?
Yes. The tool is free and runs in your browser. No account or sign-up is needed.
Is my MP4 uploaded?
No. The file is read and the audio is extracted on your device, and nothing is sent to a server.
Which MP3 bitrate should I choose?
Choose 192 kbps for most speech and music. Choose 128 kbps for the smallest file, or 256 or 320 kbps when you want a higher bitrate. The bitrate sets how much data each second of sound uses.
Does converting an MP4 to MP3 lower the quality?
The MP3 is encoded at the bitrate you pick, so a low bitrate can sound less clear. If you choose Original, the audio track is copied without changes and nothing is lost, when the track can be copied.
Can I save only part of the MP4's sound?
Yes. Drag the two white handles under the waveform to choose the part you want, then extract it. The saved MP3 holds only that section.
Does the MP3 keep the video too?
No. The file holds only the sound from the MP4. The picture is left behind.
