About

A 4:5 video is taller than it is wide, so it takes up more of the screen in a phone feed than a square or landscape post does. That extra height is the reason to choose 4:5 for a feed post. The page is already set to 4:5, so you only need to add your video.

A landscape camera clip and an upright phone clip both have to be made to fit a 4:5 frame. The tool gives three ways to do that. Blur places the whole picture over a softened copy of itself. Colour uses plain bars in a colour you pick. Crop fills the frame edge to edge and cuts off what does not fit, so Zoom and the move sliders let you decide which part stays in view.

The video is reframed in your browser and is not uploaded. No account is needed and no watermark is added. The preview is drawn the same way as the export, so the file you download matches what you see while you adjust the settings. The export is an MP4 in most browsers.

How to use the Resize a Video for Instagram Feed (4:5)

  1. 1

    Choose your video

Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file on the page, or click to choose one. The page is already set to 4:5, so the shape is ready before you start.

  2. 2

    Check the shape and size

Under Shape, 4:5 stays selected. Under Size, choose 1080p or 720p for the short side of the video.

  3. 3

    Fill the frame

Under Fill the frame with, choose Blur, Colour or Crop. With Blur, adjust the blur strength. With Colour, pick the bar colour. With Crop, use Zoom and the move sliders to keep the subject in view.

  4. 4

    Export and download

Press Export 4:5 video, wait for the progress bar to finish, then press Download. The file name ends in 4x5, such as clip-4x5.

What people use it for

  • Post a landscape clip to the feed

Reframe a widescreen recording to 4:5 so it takes up more of the phone screen than the original shape would.

  • Keep a presenter in frame

Use Crop with Zoom and the move sliders so a face or a product stays inside the 4:5 frame.

  • Show a whole product shot

Choose Blur or Colour so the full picture is visible, with no part of it cut off at the edges.

  • Make the same clip in another shape

Use the Shape list to switch the same video to 9:16, 1:1, 16:9 or 4:3 when a different place needs a different frame.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. The tool is free and runs in your browser. No account or sign-up is needed.

What is the pixel size of a 4:5 video?

4:5 is four units wide for every five units tall. At 1080p the page exports a short side of 1080 pixels, so the video is 1080 pixels wide and 1350 pixels tall. At 720p it is 720 by 900 pixels.

Should I blur or crop a video for a feed?

It depends on the footage. Crop fills the frame but cuts off the edges, so it suits a subject in the middle of the picture. Blur keeps the whole picture visible over a softened copy of itself.

Are my videos uploaded?

No. The video is opened and processed on your device and is not uploaded. The download is saved directly from your browser.

Does it add a watermark?

No. The page does not add a watermark or logo to the exported video.

Does the sound stay?

Yes. The original audio track is carried over. If the browser cannot carry the sound across, the page tells you the file is silent.
