About
Use this free online audio speed changer to speed up or slow down a podcast, lecture, voice note or song. Pick a preset from 0.5x to 2.0x, or drag the Custom Speed slider anywhere from 0.25x to 3.0x. The file bar shows the length of the output, so you know how long the new file will run before you export it.
Preserve Original Pitch is on by default. With it on, speech and music keep their natural pitch, so a faster voice does not sound high. Turn it off and the pitch follows the speed, the way a record sounds when it is played faster or slower.
Slow a dictation to 0.75x to catch each word, or speed a lecture up to 1.5x to get through it sooner. Export as MP3 or WAV, and the new file is saved with its speed in the name, such as -1.5x.
How to use the Audio Speed & Pitch Changer
- 1
Load a file
Drop an MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, AAC or MP4 file onto the page, or click to choose one. The file bar then shows the file size and the length of the output at the current speed.
- 2
Choose a speed
Click 0.5x, 0.75x, 1.0x, 1.25x, 1.5x or 2.0x, or set any speed with the Custom Speed slider.
- 3
Set pitch and format
Leave Preserve Original Pitch on for natural speech and music, or turn it off so the pitch changes with the speed. Under Format, choose MP3 or WAV.
- 4
Export and download
Click Export Speed-Adjusted Audio, then click Download Speed-Adjusted Audio when it is ready.
What people use it for
Listening to a lecture faster
Speed a recorded lecture or interview up to 1.5x or 2.0x and keep the voice at its natural pitch.
Slowing down a hard passage
Slow a song, a dictation or a language lesson to 0.5x or 0.75x so each word or note is easier to pick out.
Fitting audio into a set length
Check the output length in the file bar, then pick a speed that fits a slot in your edit.
Changing the pitch on purpose
Turn off Preserve Original Pitch to raise the pitch when you speed up, or lower it when you slow down, the way a record does when its speed changes.
Questions
Is the audio speed changer free?
Yes. The tool is free to use.
Will a faster voice sound high pitched?
Not with Preserve Original Pitch on, which is the default, because speech keeps its natural pitch at speeds such as 1.25x or 1.5x. Turn the option off and the pitch rises when you speed up. Very large changes can still sound different from the original, so listen to the export before you use it.
What are the slowest and fastest speeds?
The presets run from 0.5x to 2.0x. The Custom Speed slider goes from 0.25x, which is four times slower than the original, to 3.0x, which is three times faster.
Are my audio files uploaded?
No. The file is opened and processed on your device, and it is not uploaded.
Can I change the speed of a video?
The tool works on the audio track only. Load an MP4 file and you get back an MP3 or WAV file with the audio at the new speed, not a video.
