About

Play a video backwards with a free online video reverser. Choose a clip, click Export Reversed Video, and download the result as an MP4 file. The file is processed on your device in your browser and is not uploaded.

The frames are put in reverse order, so the last moment of the clip becomes the first. You can keep the sound, which is played backwards too, or choose Mute Audio for a result with no sound. If a video has no sound track, the export is made without audio.

The whole clip is read into memory before it is reversed. Short clips work best, such as a few seconds of a shot or a movement. Very long or high-resolution videos need more memory and take longer, and on a computer with little free memory they can fail.

How to use the Video Reverser

  1. 1

    Choose a video

Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file onto the page, or click to pick one. The page reads the video and shows its size once it has loaded.

  2. 2

    Pick the audio handling

Under Audio Handling, choose Reverse Audio to play the sound backwards, or Mute Audio to export the video without sound.

  3. 3

    Check the clip

Press play to watch the original clip. The preview plays forward, so use it to check the length and framing before you export.

  4. 4

    Export and download

Click Export Reversed Video and wait for the progress bar to finish. Then click Download Reversed Video to save the file, which ends with -reversed.

What people use it for

  • Make a rewind effect

Run a short shot backwards for a rewind moment in a film, a reel or a montage.

  • Reverse a splash or a drop

Play a liquid splash, a dropped object or a jump in reverse, so it looks like it is coming back together.

  • See a movement in reverse

Watch a golf swing, a dance step or a sports move backwards to check how it looks.

  • Make a silent clip

Export with Mute Audio when you only need the picture played backwards, for a clip that will be shared without sound.

Questions

Is the Video Reverser free?

Yes. The tool is free to use, and the reversing runs in your browser.

Does it add a watermark?

No. The tool does not add a watermark or logo to the video.

Are my videos uploaded?

No. The video is processed on your device and is not sent to a server.

Does the reversed video keep its sound?

Yes, when Reverse Audio is selected and the video has a sound track. The sound is played backwards. If the sound cannot be read, the export is made without it, and Mute Audio gives a silent result on purpose.

What format is the reversed video saved as?

The reversed video is saved as an MP4 file.

Is there a file size limit?

The page does not set a limit on the file you load. The whole clip is held in memory while it is reversed, so very long or high-resolution videos can be slow or fail.
